Three drabbles, a couple of banners, and a few icons...

June 30th, 2012 (07:08 pm)

...in the absence of anything exciting to post about ;-)

Title: Putting two and two together
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Prompt: Practical joke

“Mister Malfoy!” Professor Snape’s resonant voice filled the classroom. “Why is that object perching upon your head? Are you contemplating a career in Muggle sport?” He advanced on his hapless student.

“N-no, sir.”

“Then perhaps you intend to become what I believe Muggles term a ‘rapper’?

Malfoy blushed. “No, sir.”

Too fast for the naked eye, Snape reached out and whipped off the offending baseball cap.

The class gasped.

Malfoy’s normally long, silky, platinum hair was now short, spiky, and very, very red.

Snape stared thoughtfully at his young protégé. Then, “Five hundred points from Gryffindor, Miss Granger,” he drawled.

Title: A peace offering
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Prompt: Beltaine

The fight had been epic; Hermione’s hexes had shattered the windows. Now, Draco was standing on her doorstep, and they were eyeing each other like two sumo wrestlers.

“What are you hiding,” she demanded, “behind your back?”

It was a peace offering – a half kneazle kitten sitting in a basket and (at the cost of many scratches) wearing a little bow.

“Oh!” squealed Hermione. “Oh, Draco! Let me hold him!”

Relieved, Draco handed over the tiny monster. “What’ll you call him?” he asked, during a pause in the cooing.

Hermione fondled her kitty’s fiery orange fur. “Beltaine,” she said, happily.

Title: The End
Rating: R
Warnings: None
Prompt: Lucius

There’s a Mudblood living in his house.

She marches up and down its ancient corridors, reeking of cheap scent, poking her nose in where it isn’t wanted, filling the house-elves’ heads with Muggle nonsense...

Narcissa says she’s just a five minute wonder.

But Draco follows her around like a puppy – well, that boy never did have any character.

Lucius wishes he hadn’t survived the war, wishes he’d never lived to see this.

But he straightens his shoulders, shuts his mouth, and swallows his pride for the sake of the unfortunate grandchild, imprisoned for nine months in Hermione Granger’s tainted belly.

This banner was made for the current round of ninth_eagle's fanmedia challenge. The prompt was a picture of the White Horse of Uffington, and I had trouble thinking of a way to incorporate it into a banner with Marcus and Esca. A story might have been easier, but I'm off writing at the moment. [And, in any case, bunn had already written the perfect story, Flavius's Letter, for the same prompt.]

If you look closely, you can see where I've built the top of Marcus's head using some of Esca's hair...

This banner was made for the last ever icon_secrets post. I doodled the background on my new iPad (yay!), the teacups were already in a stack, but I manipped the man and the storm. The text is supposed to mean: "I haven't let all the wank put me off..."

I've also been asked to make two Dramione pieces for a special event, but I can't show you those until after the event!

I made a couple of light textures from one of curiouswombat's photos and I've over-used them a bit :-)

Nos 25, 26, and 30 use textures by accios; No 41 by toybirds; and No 42 by jordannamorgan.

I like the drabbles, especially the first one - and that banner is gorgeous.

It's fun spotting my photos as backgrounds.

Thank you! I was pleased with the first drabble, but it didn't place.

Your photos are an invaluable resource!

I enjoyed the drabbles, especially the first, because it was funny and the last line was great, and the third because of the bitter atmosphere of defeat and bitter threat.
The Eagle banner is lovely.
The icon secrets one is brave in its sentiments and very clever in its composition.
And the icons are beautiful.

Thank you!

I was pleased with the last line of the first drabble :-)

The icon secrets banner was a case of me getting all steamed up, and then chickening out and making something prettier and less offensive!
