Icons and some grumbling

February 26th, 2010 (08:54 pm)
Tags:

Fifty-one recent icons, made for various icontests, with varying degrees of success. Some of them are probably not Work Safe -- man_challenge is getting more and more extreme.

Extreme icon making :-)

Teasers:

eowyn legolas man_challenge

a) Yes the man in icon 35 really does have an erection. I cut it off.

b) Why do men in gay porn wear those SS Sturmbannführer caps? The boots I could understand. The breeches I could understand. The caps make them look like tits.

c) Why does it not matter how many times you win, when you're not placed it breaks your heart? Especially when it's writing (as opposed to icon making)?

d) I miss my Mum and Dad.

e) There's nowhere in this bloody house I feel at home.

f) I really hate my job. And now they're insisting I spend one night a week in London (at my own expense) so that I can do two consecutive days in the office.

g) Most of all, why does the header I'm supposed to fill in for my dracobigbang fic bear no resemblance to the story I've written?

Warnings: [Adultery/Infidelity, BDSM, Bestiality, Character Death, Domestic Violence, Drug use, Dub-con, Heavy Kink, Non-con/Rape, Slave fic, Time Turner, Torture, Violence]

E None of these.

Murder, of course, but of an OC. Lots of threats, of course, of death and torture and permanent brain damage. Allusions to BDSM. But if I put threats of and allusions to up front in the Warnings, I might as well not bother writing a mystery story at all.

BTW, why would anyone need to warn for use of a Time Turner?

a) Ningloreth - the Lorena Bobbit of the icon world...

b) Absolutely.

c) ditto.

e) I have been without my Dad for so long (he dies aged 52) that I rarely miss him - but I know I will miss my Mum terribly when the time comes.

f) I remember the feeling - I seemed to move about every 2 years until we moved into this (small, rather tatty, but homely) house - about 20 years ago. It took about three or four years until it actually began to feel like home.

d) Aaargh!

g) categories and warnings are a bane of fanfic, I reckon - and how to warn against possible worries without giving away the story - I begin to feel I need the sort of things you now see on trailers on TV for films 'contains mild horror'...!

I have been without my Dad for so long ... I know I will miss my Mum terribly when the time comes.

It's one of the worst things about getting old, I think. In a way, having both parents have long illnesses was a blessing, because I knew they wouldn't be around for long & made an effort to spend as much time with them as possible, and say things to them that normally wouldn't get said. My Mum's been gone for 6 years and my Dad for two, but not a day passes without me missing them.

I seemed to move about every 2 years

That must have been exhausting! The funny thing is that when I first moved in, had no furniture, and lived on the floor in front of the TV, I felt quite at home. It's the multiple rooms I can't really handle. That, and my fishes dying. When the first one died, it felt as if death had invaded my home, & I didn't feel comfortable any more.

categories and warnings are a bane of fanfic ... without giving away the story

I know. They're entirely for the reader's convenience and take no account of what the writer's actually written.

I need the sort of things you now see on trailers on TV for films 'contains mild horror'...!

That is exactly what we need. I'll try putting something like that & see what happens.

PS - BTW, why would anyone need to warn for use of a Time Turner?

Their mother was frightened by an egg-timer during pregnancy? Or possibly by an overly hard boiled egg...

Hmmm. I hadn't thought of that!

See - these people who come up with ludicrous lists of possible warnings think of everything... :~P

That's why we can't do their jobs!

So of course I look at icon 35 before the other. I had to appease my inner 12-year old.

And the only thing worse than the caps in gay porn? Wearing nothing but socks. Seriously, I hate that.

The job sounds like it's blowing. They could at least reimburse you.

I would have done exactly the same thing! The original picture is here, if you're curious!

So far we haven't been given a picture of someone in just his socks -- that would be traumatic -- let's hope the mod doesn't think of that one.

Curious is my middle name - no, let me rephrase that - curious is my first name. Goes to look...

Looks fake anyway!

That's what I thought! And it would explain the expression on his face.

Pretty icons! I love love love number 5.

Re rants - :( And e) specifically - I hate that feeling. It always takes at least a week or two before I can sleep properly somewhere new (which I think is why I'm always so tired on holidays), and generally I feel very much between homes at the moment, because my house doesn't really feel that way anymore and while my uni room does to some extent, in other ways it really doesn't (I blame the neighbours I'm not entirely comfortable with).

That must make life difficult! Your neighbours are very close at uni, aren't they? (I spent a term on S staircase, with a mad pianist directly above me, and a choral scholar who liked to practise in the tunnelly bit).

In the boat, I only had one tiny space, which was my bed, desk, & table all rolled into one. This damned house has rooms and furniture, and I can't get comfortable!

The sleeping's not too bad - I'm a remarkably sleepy person so I still get to sleep - it just never seems as restful and I always want to take naps.

Your neighbours are very close at uni, aren't they?

Rather. I don't know what it is about this lot - last year I ended up in a rather comfortable relationship with the people on my floor, but with this corridor it hasn't happened.

I don't know why it's so difficult to get comfortable in places! I blame evolution. It's usually at fault for this things...

Maybe it's your Slayer's senses, keeping a part of you alert...

Thank you, x 2!

I'm so annoyed with 'them' that I've actually gone so far as to look in the Manchester Evening News for a new job!

Beautiful icons.

Do you think it's possible there's nowhere you feel at home in the house because you're unsettled about the job? Which, btw, sorry to hear it's so crappy to you at the moment.

*hugs* for missing your parents.

Warnings? Because they assume everyone in fandom is all about The Dark all the time. But yeah. Time turners? Never come across that one before.

Orlando is really too pretty to be allowed. It's very distracting.

Thank you :-)

Do you think it's possible there's nowhere you feel at home in the house because you're unsettled about the job?

I think that's part of it. Plus it's much bigger than I'm used to. Plus I don't know the area it's in. Plus we'd planned to sell my father's house and split the money, and I was going to buy a new boat, but the credit crunch meant that the only way we could preserve what my parents had left us was for me to buy my brothers out, and I sort of blame the house!

they assume everyone in fandom is all about The Dark

And particularly when they write about Draco. But, also, it doesn't seem to occur to them that you might weave more than one idea into your story which, given the fandom, is pretty crazy.

Time turners?

I wondered if maybe it was one of those things, like tentacles, that had a sexual application, and everyone knew it except me!

Yes, Orlando's beautiful :-)
