Pictures meme

July 15th, 2009 (01:11 am)

I saw this meme in a friend's journal, and couldn't resist doing it myself:

Post ten of any pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive.

  • NO CAPTIONS! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words.

  • They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason.

  • You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.

earth from the moon Apollo 11

How interesting! I have the last one too - and for the life of me I can't remember where I got it from! LOL

Who is the gentleman in the 5th photo?

Isn't that amazing (your also having the last picture)! I think I got it from the Vancouver Canucks' message board -- someone was using it as a signature. I love it because it says 'Vancouver'. I don't know if it really is Stanley Park, but that's how it always looks, with me, the lone mad Englishwoman, tramping through the rain wearing a soggy fleece!

The fifth picture is of Quentin Skinner, who is now the Barber Beaumont Professor of the Humanities at Queen Mary, University of London, but used to be Professor of Political Philosophy at Cambridge. He's there to represent my obsession with of the history of ideas (and, sadly, my failed past ambitions).

I love those undressing teddy bears - D-d had one that wore a 'cat' suit when she was younger.

And Henry 7th? Not a popular figure to a natural Yorkist!

I love the rainy day picture - and don't need to ask why that particular LotR poster!

I like the teddy because I've always known that teddies get up to all sorts of mischief when you're out.

Henry VII was an astute politician, but I also chose him because I love painted sculpture.

And, yes, Legolas and Eowyn were a bit predictable. Do you think he's just tapped her on the shoulder?

[Hope you're holiday's going well.]

Holiday is going well - I have been to look at somewhere that made me think of Edoras - pics will be a few days delayed. Also walked quite a lot, and just had an enormous meal!

Tomorrow is the actual graduation ceremony.

Buffy sparkles

I'm not sure what to think about the stripping teddy (or is it putting its clothes back on?)!

And is that statue Oliver Cromwell? I'm probably embarrassing myself greatly, but to me it looks like him.

I think he's about to put on his PJs & curl up with some cocoa and a good book :-)

The statue does look like Cromwell, now you mention it, but it's actually Henry VII. I chose it because I love painted sculpture, and because the scuptor, Torrigiano, once broke Michaelangelo's nose...

He sounds like a winner!

Haha, I love the teddy!

Such an interesting meme.

The secret life of teddies!

It was fun to do, but it was hard to whittle it down to just 10 pictures.

I love the half-dressed teddy, because he's just cute.

The rainy day one is somehow very soothing, and of course I adore the LotR pic.

These were very interesting pics you have. I, unfortunately have none, because I'm technologically challenged that way. Like everything else in my life, I know enough to get on and do what I have to do, or want to do. We just bought a digital camera, so we're finally coming into the new millennium. We're a bit behind, lol.

Most of the pictures were saved from the web. The only ones I took myself are the sixth and the eighth -- the sixth is something really amazing, but no one has asked about it ;-)

I hope you and your new camera soon get well acquainted!

I didn't comment last night, because I was signed in with my other name and didn't have this icon, which I really wanted....

Are you also a sumo fan, or is it just the art that made you choose that picture?

Is that Akhenaton?

I love the rainy one

(and of course I love your OTP - especially because they should run off together and leave Faramir for me!)

What is the second one? And what does the tunnel and gate mean (my, that sounds freudian...)

Hello! Yes, it's a great icon!

Many years ago, I used to be a sumo fan (when sumo was shown on British TV), and my favourite rikishi was Terao. At the time he was about 27, so coming up to retirement, and every two months I expected to see him going through that terrible ceremony. (In fact he carried on for another ten years (!) and now has his own stable). The picture shows him at his height, and it's a very good likeness, besides being beautiful in its own right.

Yes, that is Akhenaten, another of my past obsessions! I have visted Amarna twice and was lucky enough to be taken into the royal tomb when it wasn't generally open to the public.

The rainy one is Vancouver, which I think of as my second home, LOL.

The second picture represents my very first OTP, from Gerry Anderson's Captain Scarlet -- Rhapsody Angel wearing Captain Scarlet's cap :-)

The tunnel is the most amazing of all because I took it myself. It shows what remains of Alexander Pope's grotto. It's something I'd always wanted to see but had assumed no longer existed. It turns out that it's still there and is opened to the public once a year and, this year, I managed to get a ticket!

Faramir's my favourite book character (apart from the hobbits) because Book!Legolas is a bit too fey, but I love my Orlando!Legolas and Movie!Eowyn, LOL.
