A rant

January 14th, 2008 (05:11 pm)

I'm seriously thinking of setting up a new community.

It will be called draconian_rules, have moderated posting and a long list of arbitrary, stupid, and -- yes -- draconian_rules that will ensure that I get to reject anything I want, on any grounds whatsoever, and that no ordinary member will ever get to post anything (unless I'm in a really bad mood, in which case I will accept their post but only after it's well past its sell-by date).

draconian_rules will, of course, operate a 'three strikes and you're out' policy (whatever that means -- I'm a hockey fan myself) but I will randomly change the draconian_rules so that everyone gets a chance to be banned.

Periodically, I will post to the community, complaining that its members are all complete crap, are taking the piss out of me, doing me over, shafting me up the ... you get the picture. By employing this policy, I confidently expect the community to acquire a huge and dedicated membership.

As a special treat, I will allow ordinary members to apply to become temporary guest moderators so that they too can experience the joys of rejecting posts and slagging off other members -- though I will, of course, reserve the right to arbitrarily reject their applications and, of course, I will neither give any explanation (them's the draconian_rules), nor allow any appeals.

What is the point of this community, you ask?

In a word: economy.

Why waste time posting to multiple communities when you can post all your fics, graphics, promos and requests to draconian_rules, confident in the knowledge that your post will disappear without a trace? And you may even get some abuse from the mod thrown in!

Quo eyes

Wonderful idea... and in addition you can ban people for cross-posting, pimping or simply arbitrarily for improper grammar and spelling.

*knows she'll be first on the ban list for typos*

And oh! Plagiarism, because you know I used the words, "I love you" in my fic so you can't use them in that same order in yours because it would be stealing.......

*eye shifts*

Um... shutting up now...

Shame on anyone who lets other people's work inspire them! Ripping off their entire fic, though, is fine. I would have to find some other reason to reject that. Of course, there's the whole 'canon' issue to play with :-)
