Yuletide Calendar 1 - 4

December 1st, 2011 (07:24 pm)

Sorry I've been MIA recently. I'm going away for a long weekend tomorrow, and I'm sort of dreading it, so I've been hiding under the duvet. If I owe you comments or an email, I'm sorry, and I'll catch up as soon as I can :-)

In the meantime...

It's time for a Yuletide Calendar!

I'm posting four parts today, because I don't know if I'll have an Internet connection whilst I'm away. Part 5 will be posted on Monday.

Curious Christmas

Hurrah! Hurrah! Advent!

Sometime later... Meep! Where has Arador disappeared to?

I do hope the long weekend goes well - even though you don't sound very hopeful...

Where has Arador disappeared to?

To somewhere that used to fascinate me as a child -- and I'll be surprised if the Isle of Man doesn't have one, LOL. I don't know!

I've had a phone call since I posted that, and things are looking up! So I needn't have spent the last week feeling sick :-(

Edited because I can't spell Isle of Man.

Oh, I love your yuletide calendars! I almost cheated and read all of them tonight, but I'll be good and read them each day.

I wonder what is happening the forest to kill the trees? That is alarming news.

And I read your comment - glad the weekend is looking a little better.

Shenanigans!

Thank you!

Chapt 2 - What a perfect description of travel conditions. We take our modern road so much for granted. One doesn't think about roads so bad that the horses have to be walked or that carts must be abandoned. I love how your stories make a reader feel like they are THERE. I actually scrunched up my shoulders when it started to drizzle. lol

Thank you :-)

I love stories that have a strong sense of place so that was what I was aiming for. The setting is really the north west of England, where I live.

Chapter 3 - eep! Ok, who moved?

This reminds me of the "beetle kill" that we have in our own mountains. A type of pine beetle bores into the trees and kills them in droves. It's very depressing.

I've not heard of 'beetle kill'. What a terrible thing. Do they kill off the beetles to protect the trees?

This is probably not going to be scientifically accurate, I'm afraid :-)

This is probably not going to be scientifically accurate But that's the great thing about fantasy - it can be scientifically correct for your world, but maybe not the real world. ;)

With beetle kill, the only thing that can be done is to cut down all infected trees and pile the logs together under tarps and spray the heck out of them with insecticide. Not a very good solution, I'm afraid.

Chapter 4 - Who is that guy? I wonder if he has something to do with the diseased trees or if he is a victim of it. And what has happened to poor Arador?

And how did your weekend turn out?

It turned out both worse and better than expected!

I was nervous because there had been a slight family disagreement, but that was all reconciled and everything turned out very well.

I'd booked a long weekend in Krakow, and paid extra for a day out in Zakopane, but the travel agents mixed up the days, and changed the arrangements at the last minute, and I spent a lot of the holiday trying to contact them, trying to contact my brother to rearrange our plans, and trying to contact the guide who was taking me to Zakopane to tell her that I couldn't make it on the new day...

But I did a lot in Krakow -- went to two exhibitions, two concerts, walked miles, spent ages at the Christmas Market. I took some photos and will be making a post soon.
